About Cartwrights Swim Schools

Cartwrights Swim Schools was established in 1989 at a small hotel swimming pool near stansted airport with just the founder David Cartwright responsible for the provision of swimming tuition to a group of two member’s children. This rapidly expanded to the hotels nursery and the wider local community. From this small acorn a national swim school has emerged, teaching thousands of students every year.
Our team is made up of a select group of trained professional, ranging from professional swimming teachers to our computer expert. The team work closely together to provide a unique and efficient service to our clients. Our key priority is to teach the key fundamentals of swimming to a high standard and then we aim to build on these foundations for long term development.
At Cartwright we believe
that swimming is a life skill that opens up a whole world of opportunity
for those who participate. Olympics athletes may evolve from our swim
schools, along with many swimmers who now enjoy a safe and healthy sport;
others will go onto scuba dive, sail or share the experience of swimming
with their own families one day. Our reflective approach engages swimmers
in the programme and embraces each individuals needs, providing a relaxed
and enjoyable environment in which to learn.
Classes for All Ages and Abilities
Classes are available at most sites, with small tailor made classes.
Our approach to baby swimming is based on the needs of each individual
group; bringing parent and baby together to share this exciting new
experience. We use a blend of traditional and modern teaching techniques
to create a natural and tactile learning environment. Our small friendly
swimming pools create an ideal environment for adults and babies to
enjoy the experience.
Parents are welcome to assist in the first steps to independent swimming;
with guidance from our team your little one will feel confident and
safe to discover motion, balance and freedom. The first can sometime
appear easy if parents demonstrate or offer guidance and support. This
will strengthen the natural bond between parent and child.
This is a very important stage in a childs aquatic development. Children
are greatly influenced at this age by what is happening around them,
avoidance of a life skill at this age can instil a greater reluctance
or fear to participate latter on in life. A positive and fun approach
ensures that our little ones get off to a swimmingly good start.
In general these groups accommodate our swimmers that have just started
school. Most venues will offer this level of tuition to a wide spectrum
of ages, from the young through to the more mature adult. A foundation
swimmer will be working towards become a confident swimmer with a sound
understanding of the principles of propulsion and hydrodynamics (foundation
for swimming).
Although the beginner is very similar to the foundation swimmer there
is a clear distinction between the two. A beginner will have developed
the fundamental and be confident in what they do. These swimmers are
working towards the more advanced watermanship skills and will naturally
progress to the next level. The importance of this stage is to provide
clarity of technique and to focus on how well an individual can swim
the stroke, rather than how far.
Our swimmers will be able to swim 1 simultaneous stroke and 2 alternating
strokes to a recognisable standard. At this level consistency of stroke
technique and swimming ability will need to be maintained to reduce
the risk of skill fade. Our swimmers are ready to move on to the practical
skills related to water safety and competitive swimming now. Teachers
are able engage with swimmers with relationship to the dynamics of
swimming and the individuals long-term personal goals. We are dedicated
to providing a well balanced learning environment that brings together
young people with a common interest to enjoy the sport and share their
experiences with each other. There maybe several groups of swimmers
at your venue and we will advice you of any changes that you may need
to make to ensure your child continues to get the best out of our swim
school for them.
At all venues we are able to offer arrange of bespoke personalised tuition
for adults of all ages and abilities. For the first time swimmer we
have small friendly leisure pools with dedicated teachers ready to
help you make that first significant step. In shallow water our teachers
will accompany you whilst you relax and enjoy you new born freedom.
It session will be lead by your teacher at a pace that is just right
for you. For the more competent swimmer we can help improve your stroke,
good posture and well being. Why not take a lesson from time to time
and let us set you some target for the following session.
